The problem with social media has more to do with the people that own those platforms. They change the algorithms to encourage engagement which usually means showing people things that will upset them.

I feel it strikes right into the heart of the Fediverse.

Here it is - an opportunity to build a brighter Internet personality again, without artificial enragement, troves of bots and negativity.

We are here for you. We are fun, and we can be your home. We don’t ignore whatever happens on the outside, yet acknowledge it’s directed at us in a way that maximizes misery and minimizes action.

So, let’s start with that. A change comes with kindness. Stop by your niche community and answer people’s questions. Post positive news and share your great life moments (there are places for that on Lemmy!). Chat about what you cooked today, and share some recipes with the world! Support activist groups! Whatever it is, here lies an opportunity to make a positive change - first here, and then elsewhere.

I believe in you and the kindness of your heart. Together, we can make everything happen.
