Someone should create a religion that revolves around creating, updating and carrying out task lists

NGL, I tend to ritualise things (lingering effect of fundie upbringing + dose of fantasy nerd with magic rituals and shit) so I could absolutely see myself doing that. Hell, I’ll commit the cardinal sin and write this up instead of actually working on my list.

The central divine entity could be a spirit of order and strength. The Prayer Book is a list of recurring, standard tasks, to be individually augmented according to your own needs and obligations.

Morning prayer is naming all the things that should be done today. Evening observance is to acknowledge what you did manage to do, receive the blessing of satisfaction and to prepare a plan for the next day. Weekly observance is to examine and reflect on the work of the week, then to prepare a list of the irregular tasks that need to be done on top of the regular ones.

Procrastination is the greatest temptation to be resisted. It’s also the one I’m falling for right now. If you can’t make an observance, be honest to yourself about the reasons and try to catch up at the earliest opportunity.

“I don’t have the energy”, even if it is sometimes valid, is not a good reason to skip it tasks or observances, as it may reinforce itself and lead to the vice of avoidance, which leads to the misery of being overwhelmed by your task backlog.

Depression and Executive Dysfunction are demons trying to fight you and make things hard, but summoning the willpower to push through and get at least something done is an act of devotion that will surely be rewarded with additional satisfaction for your victory.

We all sin or fail sometimes. Do not burden yourself with guilt or shame, as they will only weigh you down. Do not grasp for justifications, as it will waste time and energy. Contemplating the source of your fall is useful in avoiding future falls, but dwelling on it will slow you in seeking the only atonement: to catch up. To be back on track is the only absolution needed.

Go forth and be productive, so that you may be blessed with satisfaction and encouragement.

And now I shall lead by example and do the dishes instead of further perfecting that draft.
