1·2 days agoOk, sure, but the oroginal post is about how atheists specifically don’t proselytize like religious people do. And your argument is that… Capitalists do marketing? Like what?

7·2 days agoHuh, what a reply. Not really sure what to do with this one.
Like, first off, it feels like you’re trying to conflate atheists and secularism with… capitalism for some reason? Like, you understand that businesses employ religious people as well as atheists right, and that secular organizations don’t exclude religious people, they’re just devoid of religious affiliation?
And second, Henry Ford and John Kellogg never ordered crusades be carried out in the name of personal motor vehicles and/or oatmeal enemas. The Catholic Church literally commanded the slaughter of millions of Muslims in the name of their god. And don’t get me wrong, I’m no bootlicking capitalist, and I recognize that most corporations are evil and greedy, and run by evil and greedy people. But nothing a corporation has done really compares to the violence and bigotry perpetrated by most of the larger religious sects, especially of the Abrahamic religions.

Atheism@lemmy.world•Brb I have to hand out pamphlets and go door-to-doorEnglish
18·3 days agoThere are entire sects of certain religions where the main focus is on spreading their religion as much as they possibly can. They literally send religious agents into locations with the express intent to convert non-believers. This is done in a methodical, organized, and in some cases, militant manner. That’s not really comparable to YouTube atheists “wearing their atheism on their sleeve”.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Drop your unpopular opinions here because c/unpopularopinions is filled with popular opinions
2·3 days agoThe environmental impact problem with AI is the land, water, energy use, and pollution caused by the data centers and power plants being built for it, not the electricity cost of sending a prompt to a chatbot. So this isn’t really an unpopular opinion, it’s a misunderstanding of reality.

1·5 days agoBig fan of StumpyNubs and Lincoln Street. Workshop Companion is pretty great too, and has a good mix of both hand tool and power tool woodworking. The host used to teach, and it really comes through in his presentation style, he makes some of the most informative, information-dense videos on woodworking YouTube.

So far you’ve only agreed that the HP series has numerous literary flaws, but pointed to popularity and commercial success as measures that it is objectively a good work of literature.
Can you point to any literary reasons as to why the HP series is a good work of literature?

4·8 days agoMost Taco Bell items are surprisingly healthy/balanced too though. Like, other than some of the crazier novelty items, pretty much everything on the menu is just protein and veggies wrapped in a tortilla. The bean and rice burrito has some of the best macros of any fast food item, and as a bonus, it’s still relatively cheap, especially compared to Chik fil a.

This makes me think of Love Island. Season 7 is my favorite so far, because it’s by far the most wholesome season, and it’s nice to see people resolving conflicts in a calm, mature, healthy manner.
It’s widely regarded by the overall Love Island fandom as the worst season though, because there’s not enough drama. Because people love watching things that make them unhappy I guess.
This also makes me think of The Great British Baking Show. It’s a competition show, sure, so people get eliminated which is sad. But all the contestants are nice to one another, the judges are honest but not mean, it’s just an all around wholesome time. Contrast that to all the other cooking competition shows out there, which are mostly adrenaline-fueled nightmares where everyone’s mean to everyone else. I just don’t get it man
Eh, there’s plenty of hateful teachings in the Christian Bible too though
