  • I got that, your story-telling was fine, no worries. I’ll admit, I was sort of just making a non-sequitur based on your aside in my commentary there. ✌

Although I did also mean to suggest that if they’re comfortable with this kind of oversight you can’t know what other oversights they’re comfortable with, and thus you really should get checked for infection.

  • That you were lucky in the temperament of your neighbor’s dog doesn’t change the reality that having a pet that can and does regularly escape enclosure is bad pet ownership. You could have just have likely lost that draw and ended up with a problematic animal that wasn’t properly secured, but thankfully you didn’t. It sounds like the shepherd is a great animal; my condemnation was not direct at all towards the dog, just the dog owner.

  • These might be hot takes, but they’re honest, I just have real specific tastes:

The first big one that stands out to me is Tales of Berseria. This game looked incredible to me, but holy shit do I hate the combat with every fiber of my being. I love action games with strong action combat like a Devil May Cry or a Bayonetta, and I love RPGs like Final Fantasy, Persona, and countless others (it’s ones of my favorite genres), but I basically hate almost any and all hybrid action-RPG systems. I just genuinely cannot understand the appeal, and I couldn’t even make it more than a couple hours into Tales of Berseria before giving it up because I hated every single combat interaction I was in.

My other thought was Civ: Beyond Earth. I’ve heard I might have liked the game more if I had come at from a Civ 5 or prior background, but I game into after spending 500+ hours in Civ 6 and by comparison C:BE felt frustrating and meandering and pointless. I enjoyed exactly zero of my minutes spent on the game.

  • I think there’s a small handful of powerusers like LadyButterfly, Stamets, The_Picard_Maneuver, formerly FlyingSquid, etc, but they seem to me mostly non-problematic, mostly don’t seem to overreach, and all seem to be actual people who actually interact and engage in discussions as members of their respective communities. I think some of them could post less or be more discerning in what they post, if it was up to me, but I understand that currently all of these type of users are interested in the growth of Lemmy and motivated to do their part to provide content, so I appreciate them vastly more than any critique I have of them. I am wary of the influence and soft power that can be accrued by powerusers, but as of right now I personally don’t think it’s a particular issue the community is currently facing.

But also I am not the most active or engaged community member, especially in the drama or social politics side of the fediverse, so the likelihood of blindspots in my view is high, I’ll admit.
