For me, it was hiking to a waterfall in Costa Rica with no food and only one bottle of water. THANK FUCK it rained; we would have been in trouble if I couldn’t have had sips of water from the leaves to stay hydrated, and if the temperature had stayed as high as it was.

111·5 days agoHis policies are good for America, but cmon… do we really need a bigger, better military? Everyone was so deep into the personal drama of his past that they forgot to criticize his policies, it seems.

136·5 days agoYeah, totally. That doesn’t mean we can’t / shouldn’t be aware of past actions and vehemently disavow them, especially now that he’s won! Hopefully, the next anti-establishment politician isn’t a murderer with a Nazi tattoo with intents to bolster the military and incentivize service.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Zionist media, politicians, and AIPAC hate Graham Platner
21·6 days agoPlease. Platner’s past is so spotty that there would only be a conspiracy if this didn’t get discussed.
I’m not telling you to avoid voting for him, but he’s definitely got a checkered past.
I understand the historical neo-Nazi ties, but I mean, AIPAC has its fingers in practically every politician. Practically every politician is a Zionist. It follows that the US government is occupied by Zionists, no?
I also am confused by how the article you linked seemingly equates Zionism with Judaism; haven’t anti-Zionists been putting effort into emphasizing that those two things are not the same? Yes, the neo-Nazis often use ZOG and JOG interchangeably. But the recent adoptees of the term do not.
I’ve been hung up on this issue specifically for a few weeks. My belief is that the use of this term does not automatically make one an anti-Semite or a neo-Nazi, despite its history. Are you concerned about the rising use of this term radicalizing people into neo-Nazisim?
Also, as an aside, I feel like there’s some disagreement as to what Zionism means. Zionism is the advocacy for a Jewish colonial state in Palestine; my understanding is that if one supports Israel’s right to exist, they are a Zionist. Do you disagree? Last time I brought this up I got downvoted and my comprehension skills were insulted, but I mean it’s literally the first sentence of the linked article.
Please try to engage with this comment in good faith.
I’m asking in earnest. The credibility of your argument depends on your provision of evidence!
Please direct me to resources. I fail to comprehend how an exploding lapel mic can cause a bullet-shaped perforation in one’s neck.

5·8 days agoPeople love to malign Argentina for a Nazi presence and subsequently forget to mention the massive influx of Nazis into the US post-war. The Nazis in Argentina fled persecution, the Nazis in the US were given a golden ticket and government jobs.
I generally agree with this sentiment, but driving a manual car really is awesome and I fantasize about buying that new Z, despite my overwhelmingly anticapitalist, anti-retail therapy views.

13·14 days agoI’m not being flippant, I’m being factual.
A direct quote from the first sentence of the Wikipedia article on Zionism serves my purpose well, when someone is contesting the very simple definition of that term.
Bernie serves the Imperial core. Bernie is a Zionist. These are irrefutable facts, as evidenced by your unwillingness to engage with the argument.
Bernie is good for Americans, but not good for the world. How much weight you put on humanity and how much weight you put on your own wellbeing is up to you, but not everyone is American; you’d do well to remember that as you continue your political journey.
When I hung out with the Clintons and Joe Biden, they gave me some Adrenochrome and boy howdy let’s just say I’ve really opened my third leg.

13·15 days agoYou realize Tel Aviv wasn’t always occupied by Zionists, right? The entirety of Israel is a colonial project. You can’t just arbitrarily draw a line between one year and another and say that only ethnosupremasist colonial acts of aggression after that year qualify as being enacted under Zionism.

politics @lemmy.world•Graham Platner Could Be the Bellwether of a New US Populism
14·15 days agoThat is literally what Zionism means.
Zionism is an ethnocultural nationalist movement that emerged in late 19th century Europe to establish and support a Jewish homeland through colonization in the region of Palestine… Zionists wanted to create a Jewish state in Palestine with as much land, as many Jews, and as few Palestinian Arabs as possible
By stating that Israel has a right to exist, you are validating the Zionist ethos.

15·15 days agoBernie says Israel has a right to exist, therefore Bernie is a Zionist. It’s not that hard to understand.

Sounds like it’s time to establish a viable third party. Obviously, that is easier said than done, and many would consider it impossible. But left-wing sentiments continue to grow in popularity and we must not resign ourselves to a fate without challenging it!
It’s crazy to think about what a viable third party would look like, and how it would get off the ground. It’s tragic and says a lot about the world we live in that the only way I see it happening is through virality — memes and influencers — but then, how is this campaign funded in a way that competes with the corpo vaults, and how do you get the right people onboard?
