If a large population is only or almost only using Twitter, then the message never reaches them if no one on Twitter is saying it. Yes, the president appoints and fires the attorney general. However, unlike most subordinates, the attorney general is meant to execute the role without direction from the president, according to their own expertise and judgment.

Since the attorney general may have just cause to pursue legal action against members of the administration and/or allies of the president, and since those people should not be rendered immune to prosecution based on their association with the president, it is necessary for the health of our whole government system that the attorney general act independently. If they fail to perform that job, the president should replace them - and that is a choice that should never be made lightly, as there is a gigantic potential conflict of interest.

In principle, the Dept of Justice is meant to be completely independent of the White House. The point is to have a federal entity concerned with the law over politics. If they are failing to actually prosecute the law, then a change in leadership is needed, but as far as which specific cases to.pursuw to pursue and how, that should be separate from whichever person/party is in power.

It was my first thought when Elon was circling Twitter, pre-purchase.

It seems like a no-lose for aspiring oligarchs, buying a social media platform with a large enough left and/or youth user base:

1. muck with the algorithm until what remains is a new right-wing echo chamber; or
2. accidentally sink the whole platform, but at least you wrecked a popular place for left-wing messaging; or
3. somehow not meaningfully change the status quo, and end up with loads of user data and ad revenue.

Individually, many MAGA folks are cowardly. However, they also claim to despise cowards. So maybe this can be used to make them tear themselves apart.

If these officers “feared for their lives” in this situation, maybe we need some agents who aren’t fucking cowards. I didn’t realize MAGA knowingly celebrated cowardly men.
