I’ve had a conversation with one of my friends a few times. Even if she was filthy rich she would still work. People always claim various things like getting bored or needing something to do or wanting purpose.

I would find plenty to do without working and her take on it blows my mind. In fact every argument I’ve heard from people in general, my response (at least in my head) is that I could still accomplish that thing without employment.

I can keep myself entertained doing the things I enjoy, I can find purpose helping people with my boatloads of cash, I would have time to learn all kinds of new skills. I could start businesses to handle some niche ethically, if the main players are scummy. The possibilities are damn near endless and if I’m ever rich, I’m not going to continue spending my time making some other prick richer.

Hasn’t this type of thing already been litigated?

You know what, it is hdmi. That’s not a crazy idea. The ports are hdmi on both ends though, the monitor has a displayport but my desktop is using it and the mini pc has 2 hdmi outputs. I wonder if adapter-cable-adapter would do anything for me in that case.

I made a push to fully use Linux last year, so I installed arch on this thinkpad, fedora on a desktop, and i already had mint on a mini pc (at the time mint was all i knew). The desktop was new with an nvidia rtx 5070, and it came with Ubuntu installed (which i thought was neat that it did but I didn’t actually want to use).

I went through installing arch without the script following the wiki, and troubleshooting issues here and there, but for some reason that update issue occurred pretty often, virtually every time (the touchpad also usually stops working too). The desktop also had issues, sometimes with updates as well, because of the GPU or the Bluetooth wouldn’t work, or i would just break something trying stuff.

I have 1 usb drive, and I kept putting one of the two isos onto it so I could fix or start over on either device. I did other things too, like rolling back packages one by one until whatever issue went away, or actually just finding a real fix for things. Either way, I eventually got burned out on troubleshooting and just wanted to reliably USE the devices (like i had been doing with mint all this time). So, if i update on arch and it breaks, I just roll it back with timeshift and ignore it and I switched over to bazzite for now on the desktop so I would stop breaking things (lol).

If I was at a point where I could easily identify that “oh the touchpad and connection issue is just the dinglehopping transister setting getting changed in this update, easy fix!” I’d be fine, but I don’t know the cause and I got tired of searching. (Edit: Or if I didn’t give myself TWO projects at once)

Yeah, I tried to look into it and never figured it out. Just for clarity as I reread my comment, by on/off I mean the monitor going to “sleep”.

I can’t get the monitor to stay off. Something keeps getting it to turn back on, which is annoying because I have 3 devices plugged into it. So instead of me coming back to another device and both monitors turn on and to that device, this monitor is just always showing the one device and i have to switch the input.

It’s not TOO bad around here, but when I was on a Linux binge on Youtube, some people in the comments there genuinely just don’t want other people to move to Linux. That’s not my words, it’s theirs. They flat out don’t want new Linux users or for Linux to grow… but they use it.

You’ve changed the comparison from your post. A round earther who googled it, is not a focused and passionate expert. They googled why the Earth is round and accepted it. A focused and passionate expert by nature of being an expert can do all the calculations that actually work and prove the Earth is round (nevermind the fact we’ve seen it from space at this point). Those focused and passionate experts are exactly the interesting people you want to talk to, because they intimately understand what they’re experts on and can go on and on about it in detail.

I went to tidal. I would happily self host, but I value the discovery of new music through these services. Throwing on a “radio” based on a song to get a certain vibe and then maybe finding songs I didn’t know about.

YouTube music isn’t awful but for years it drains my battery fiercely. I think it’s related to me having my main Playlist downloaded, it always seems to be permanently stuck in a downloading status. Maybe some song on there is no longer available.

Speaking of these apps, why do barely any of them let you take your “liked” songs and filter by genre? Sometimes I just want the metal songs from my Playlist, or whatever. Spotify did, but they’re shitty nowadays.

I like black beans, so I’ve purchased 2 5-gallon “food safe” buckets from tractor supply, plus lids, then bought bulk white rice and dry black beans.

I’ve just been doing 2 to 1 black beans to rice by weight (cooked weight) and then doing whatever the fuck to it after. Usually just dumping on some salsa, seasonings, and cheese. I also use a little bit of olive oil if I remember, since that’s what I have and there’s not much fat in this other than the cheese. Today I did not remember (until this comment lol).

One more piece of bad news for VR

VR is doing fine. It’s a niche hobby for people like myself to feel like you’re inside of a game, movie, or porn. If you’re someone who does work on your own device, you can even work in VR.

The metaverse was a ridiculous idea, that is beaten by VRChat.

I agree, I think people romanticize it and think of it like gardening. It can be relaxing, therapeutic even, to do some home gardening. Actually becoming a farmer sucks. It’s why a lot of its done by immigrants who don’t have many better options.

Besides, that’s tech now too and it’s also been enshittified. Look at John Deere.
